Buying a pre-owned yacht in Hong Kong: FAQ

What does buying a pre-owned yacht cost beyond the asking price?

Before the transfer you would normally arrange a survey and check the ownership and mortgage records. After that come berthing, third-party insurance (a legal requirement, with a minimum liability of HK$5,000,000) and annual maintenance, so budget the running costs together with the purchase price.

How much does it cost to keep a yacht in Hong Kong each year?

For an entry-level 20–30 ft boat, a real case runs about HK$120,000 a year (roughly HK$10,000 a month), covering berthing, insurance, basic maintenance, fuel and part-time boat-keeping. Larger boats cost more, mainly in berthing and crew.
